Artistic Statement- My idea is to take my handsized sculpture from my 3D foundations class and gigantasize it. The maquette scupture i have is approximately six and a half inches tall, three inches deep, and six inches across, with a five inch spring holding the the two hand peices together. i plan to make the inches into feet.
The sculpture i have is made of small wood peices reasembling my fingers, as well as a spring that i found on a straw broom. It is suppose to reseamble two hands clapping, when it is moving it kinda does, but also reseambles a slinky.
I had two ideas for for theuse of this sculpture. I want it to be outside and move the same way the one I have does, with the wind. another way I thought up is to put a handle on the backside of each hand and people can play with it, in this form it cold inside or outside. If done in a large scale, i wish to make it out of a more durable material, most likely metal. Some initial thoughts on materials were aluminum, bronze, steel, and titanium, exspecially for the spring. I'm not sure what it should be made off, and i'm very open to suggestion.
I had a few places in mind for where a peice like this can go. I could see a piece like this go in a park, or a playground, near children. I could see it at places like COSI, a place were kids learn science, annd about kenetic energy. It would look well in a sculpture garden, especially if it moves. However, my first thought was by a river with a nice breeze to move the hands back and forth, like a promenade.
The ways this could be made are quite a few. It could be made in three peices then welded or hinged together. It could be made in one piece, or it could be made in thirteen pieces.
There is also a matter of how it should stand.I have pictures of many ways it could stand, however there are many more i have not thought off.
